Having worked in the NHS as a microbiology and immunology post graduate scientist looking after humans for over 30 years, I decided to turn my attention to animals when I retired. I had always wanted to work with animals, having learned to ride horses at the age of five, but my life and studies took me in a different direction.

My gorgeous Labrador suffered with arthritis for most of his life and, along with my work diagnosing human arthritic conditions in the NHS, this has given me an appreciation of the pain and suffering of patients and the debilitating compensatory issues they cause. I became particularly interested in animal therapy when my horse had a suspensory ligament injury several years ago and was helped by a veterinary physiotherapist who, along with the vet, introduced me to several manual and electrotherapy techniques that have such a profound effect on animal health and wellbeing.

I continued my studies and become a qualified Equine Body Worker and completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Animal Health from Writtle University College, studying canine and equine handling, functional anatomy, biomechanics, animal welfare, gait analysis, major pathologies, and treatment.

Having attended the Galen Introduction to Massage Workshop I realised that the Galen approach with emphasis on choice led treatment for dogs was one that I aspired to and was eager to learn more, resulting in the completion of the Galen Myotherapy Diploma.

I have a re-homed greyhound and my daughters have cocker spaniels. I gain great pleasure from seeing how these dogs have changed our lives by becoming part of the family. I feel very strongly that all animals should have the prospect of happy, long, and healthy lives and am grateful to be part of the Galen team.
