WELCOME

Welcome to Galen Myotherapy

We specialise in treating dogs with chronic muscular pain; enabling enhanced mobility and health through detailed postural and environment assessment, unique massage techniques and rehabilitative exercise management.

Established by Julia Robertson in 2002, Galen Myotherapy has always been at the forefront of imparting knowledge and interpreting how behaviour and muscle pain manifest in our dogs. Our global organisation is passionate about enriching the lives of dogs through treatment, research and education.

We’re the most well-established training organisation in canine health, providing externally accredited courses, online courses CPDs and workshops for all levels of learners and canine professionals.
We transform dogs' lives like Rafiki below through targeted massage techniques and rehabilitative exercise management.

Before

After three treatments

In 2003 4 year old Rafiki was going to be put to sleep due to her pain levels that were not being improved by medication. With Galen Myotherapy she went on to live a full and happy life until she was 17 years old!
Working closely with experts in animal health we’ve inspired many of the luminaries that have gone on to be leaders in the industry.
Julia and Galen were a catalyst in the creation of Canine Arthritis Management. Through doing the Galen Myotherapy diploma, my eyes were opened to the physical and emotional signs of pain and discomfort we see in our dogs. It also opened my mind to improved ways to manage it. I am so pleased to see that they have created a course for owners to also gain that new perspective. They say the 'enrich the lives of dogs' they really do!

This course will teach you about muscle pain from a dog’s perspective and how simple environmental and activity changes can make a positive impact on your own dog’s health. This course will make you change the way you see a dog's life, plus give you the information to make fundamental improvements. This course is a must for all dog owners! Or for anyone who shares their life with a dog.

Introduction to Canine Anatomy and Physiology

CPD for Veterinary Professionals
This course is suitable for those who are already working in the capacity of a veterinary professional. This could be a degree-level qualified veterinary nurse, a vet in training or qualified vet.

The course will give you an in-depth understanding of the link between pain and behaviour based on 20 years of experience and research. You’ll learn about Galen Myotherapy’s revolutionary treatment protocols and how massage therapy and rehabilitative exercise management can form a comprehensive and effective treatment plan for conditions such as osteoarthritis, repetitive strain injuries, ongoing and undiagnosed lameness and mobility issues associated with obesity. Discover the importance of postural and functional movement assessment when evaluating how a dog presents including compensatory and loading issues. Learn techniques to repattern and re-enliven effective kinetic chains to enhance mobility and give clear guidance to dog owners on the impact of their dog’s environment on their musculoskeletal health.

HOW WE ENRICH THE LIVES OF DOGS

Revolutionary Treatment Protocols

Galen Myotherapy advanced treatment protocols are a result of years of study, 1,000’s of treatments and close observations and assessments of the dogs, before, during and after their treatment.

Galen Myotherapy promotes health and treats chronic muscular pain in dogs through detailed postural assessment along with the understanding of functional movement which we incorporate into our highly effective treatment programmes. We use specialised massage techniques and rehabilitative strengthening techniques, to manage the chronic muscular pain and inflammation that is caused by the many different conditions that are so common in a dog’s life.

Pain and behaviour interpretation is an integral part of how we work. This has led to the development of thse Galen Comfort Scale©, which is a scale that we have developed from years of experience, identifying behavioural and physical changes that relate to a dogs physical and muscular health.

Galen Myotherapy is a physical therapy, incorporating a specific and unique handling protocol. The handling protocol used is called Positive P.A.C.T. (Progressive Affective Cycle of Therapy) and it is based on giving the dog choice.

Galen Myotherapy specialises in treating dogs with painful chronic muscular pain. Applying the treatment will be uncomfortable for them to receive, therefore giving them choice allows them autonomy and gives them the agency to choose where they are treated.

This protocol allows us to treat areas on the dog that we would not otherwise be able to positively influence due to they know they have control over their body.

Proudly working in partnership

As the global leader in Canine Myotherapy, we're proud to partner with a number of individuals and organisations around the world. Some of these operate international schools with us, and others we stand alongside delivering training workshops and seminars. In every case, they share our values and outlook, and we're proud to be working with them. You can read more about these on our associates page.

Galen Myotherapy has quite literally changed Ozzey’s life, from a prematurely old and painful dog into one that is so, so much happier. I was also shown how I can help to maintain his condition so I too can help him. He has top-ups every few months but I have learnt to know when he is starting to go downhill. I feel that I am in much more control of his health and well-being!
